I can officially die happy… I have now experienced an Australian beach AND met three KANGAROOS!!!
[I forgot to mention that I don’t have roommates yet! I have an Aussie guy and girl and a Kiwi (New Zealander) guy but they haven’t returned from break! Needless to say, I was quite confused when I got here and saw the fridge and cabinets stocked with no people. Anyway they should be here soon.]
So last night, after I finished my turkey sandwich while watching Master Chef Australia, my Swedish friend, Erik, came over with one of his roommates, Rehan from South Africa. The three of us went to two girls apartment (I know, I finally met some girls?!) Celia from Norway and Johanna from Sweden. Both gorgeous girls and very sweet. We hung out for a little but went in quite early.
This morning my friend Daniel, from Australia, picked me up at 9am (7pm last night your time) and we went to Mooloolaba Beach and Maroochydore. Mooloolaba is the main beach in the Sunshine Coast area. It was gorgeous! We got coffee and brekky at Gloria Jeans, passed a Starbucks, and walked down to the water. I was freaking out – it looks just like the pictures. We spent a few hours there, most filled with my “Oh my gosh” and “I can’t believe I’m really here!” ‘s. I’ve decided that it probably won’t ever hit me that I’m living in a literal paradise for the next 5 months. After I was finally torn from the ocean we drove into Maroochydore where the main shopping plaza is. It was really nice with a boardwalk on a man-made river. I think I’m going to like it here J
Daniel was SO nice to drive me to the beach this morning!
I’m enjoying a ‘Brekky Scroll’ and Gloria Jeans coffee
I found Steve Irwin! I will definitely visit his zoo while I’m here
Kreekree, I found a Starbucks!
I have died and gone to heaven…
On the way back from the beach, Daniel and I drove through campus (since I had yet to see it!). We were walking around when I casually asked if Kangaroo’s actually toured around the campus. Then, right in front of us, were THREE! I was freaking out like never before – I can’t even explain how close we were. It was one of the most incredible things I have EVER experienced! They finally got bored with us and hopped away though. Now I know I’m going to like it here!
Real live Kanga’s!!!!
Can you believe how close I am?!
I still feel pretty fuzzy from all the traveling and being sick. You wouldn’t believe what a 14hour time change will do to you! When we got back, I laid down for a nap but ended up Skyping mom. A perfect substitute! My friend Erik, from Sweden, called me around 1 to play tennis. We ended up meeting three more Aussie’s on the court and we all played for a while. Needless to say, I got more instruction-time than playing-time in… I thought Jessi and I were professionals but I guess things are different here in Australia!
I’m about to get ready now for a barbeque, which is nothing like a pig-picking! Afterwards we’re going back into Mooloolaba to go clubbing. Tell you all about it tomorrow!!! Love you all
Enjoying your blogs and your great pictures. I'm glad your mom got Skype working (or did she just get a new computer?) Thanks for letting us all share in your experience. Love you!
ReplyDeleteI hear rumors that there are girls in Australia, but no proof in photos yet. No wonder you're so popular with the boys there - you're the only girl in town!
